What is Morse code?

Morse code is a method of encoding text characters as standardised sequences of two signals — dots (short) and dashes (long). Developed by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail in the 1830s, it was the first practical system for long-distance text communication via telegraph wire. It was later adopted for radio communication and remains part of maritime and aviation emergency signalling today.

How to read Morse in this tool

Each letter is separated by a single space. Words are separated by a forward slash / surrounded by spaces. A ? in the output means a character could not be translated. When decoding, make sure each Morse letter is separated by exactly one space and each word boundary is marked with / .
